Can You be a Great Freelance Copywriter?

So you think you have what it takes to be a freelance copywriter? You may not realise this, but all of us are born with the ability to write; it's just that most people never take the time to develop their skills. If you're willing to put in some work, then there is no reason why you can't become a great copywriter too!

But first, I need to break some bad news, copywriting takes more than just writing ability. It requires a mindset that can only be developed through experience and time spent practicing your craft. As an art form that bridges the gap between language and marketing, professional copywriters are considered experts in communication strategy because businesses rely on their skills at selling ideas with impactful words. They are responsible for developing unique content for multiple platforms including email newsletters, product descriptions, website text, blogs, articles and social media posts to name a few…

This role has been part of marketing efforts for centuries, but has become more popular over time with businesses tapping into their expertise when they want to sell a product or service – whether offline or online. It may sound overly simplified, but you’d be surprised at how much strategy it takes to create an effective sales pitch – it can involve writing 300-page eBooks or a 30-second commercial, so there really is no limit to what we can do…

This means that not everyone can be a freelance copywriter. They must be effective communicators with an extensive knowledge of the English language and marketing strategy able to sell ideas to the masses, while still maintaining authenticity and credibility. It’s not simply about writing pretty or fun words – there is a method behind our work and it all starts with research. Research on the client’s target audience and competition; type of content for lead generation; unique tone of voice; SEO best practices; and how to reach the client’s target audience. Copywriting is an important part of the marketing mix; without it, many businesses would struggle to sell their products or services. It’s a career that is not for everyone, but if you feel it’s something you can and would love to do, then go for it! I certainly don’t regret it!
